Beaches & lakes

The valley's go-to swimming spots. Check conditions before you go — water levels and beach closures change through the season.

LAKE · BEACH

Cultus Lake

The valley's most popular lake — sandy beaches, warm water, waterslides, and boat rentals. Main Beach and Maple Bay are the family picks. Gets busy on weekends; go early.

LAKE · REMOTE

Chilliwack Lake

Pristine glacial lake at the end of Chilliwack Lake Road — quieter than Cultus, cold and clear. Provincial park campground and day-use area. Gravel road, no services past the park gate.

URBAN LAKE

Mill Lake — Abbotsford

Right in town: paved trail around the lake, small sandy beach, playground, and picnic tables. Shallow and warm — great for small kids. No lifeguard.

RIVER BEACH

Kilby Beach — Harrison Mills

Sandy Fraser River beach with mild current at Kilby Historic Site. Shallow wading, picnic area, and the heritage general store. A local favourite for a mellow swim day.

Good to know

Before you go

What's in season in the Fraser Valley right now?

As of July 10: strawberries are mostly pre-picked or limited weekend u-pick at select farms (Maan weekends/reservations; Bumbleberry says strawberry u-pick is closed to let the field ripen). Raspberry and blackberry u-pick are open at Bumbleberry and other early farms; Willems has raspberry u-pick daily as of its July 3 verification. Blueberries are the main July crop now: u-pick is confirmed open at Bumbleberry and Klaassen, Willems was verified July 3 for Duke blueberry u-pick, and other valley blueberry farms should be checked at source before driving. Blackcurrants run through July at organic growers.

When does blueberry u-pick start in Abbotsford and Chilliwack?

Blueberry u-pick is underway at the farms we could directly confirm: Klaassen Farms opened blueberry u-pick June 29 (raspberry u-pick Fri–Sat mornings), and Bumbleberry Farms has blueberry u-pick open in Abbotsford. Willems Berry Farm's July 3 verification had Duke blueberry u-pick open; Prairie Fruit Farm's website still does not resolve and its current social schedule has not been re-confirmed. Always check the farm's own site/social or call before driving out.

Should I call the farm before I go?

Yes. Field conditions change overnight — a farm can pause u-pick mid-week when a field is picked out and reopen days later. Every entry on this board shows the date it was last verified, and the farm's own site or phone is always the final word.

Do I need to bring my own containers?

Several farms ask you to bring your own containers or charge extra for boxes (Blueberry Junction and Bumbleberry Farms among them). Bring buckets or reusable containers to be safe; most farms refuse plastic bags.
